Why “The Good Life”?

Since 1971, “The Good Life” has been the unofficial state slogan of the state of Nebraska, where I was raised.  As such, there’s no shortages of businesses and even a wonderful band who have adopted the name as an homage to their homeland.  Luckily, the Secretary of State’s office in Ohio informed me that no one in my current state of residence had snatched it up yet, so as I was clapping my hands and jumping for joy, The Good Life Photography, LLC, was born.  Aside from it being in honor of the state that I will always call home, it represents what I strive to capture in each session.  I want to show you that even though sometimes life is messy and things don’t seem so beautiful when you’re deep in the trenches of parenthood or relationships, you are living The Good Life.

Why lifestyle photography?

I love authentic connections and it makes me so happy to photograph them.  That’s it.

What should we wear?

Whatever makes you feel like the best version of you.

  • To Moms – wear what makes you happy and comfortable.  The outfit you put on and say, “Yup.  Not too shabby.”  If that’s jeans and an old t-shirt, great.  If it’s your favorite dress, awesome.  Wear whatever makes you happy and you’ll look beautiful.  As much as you can, I encourage you to let the kids help in picking out their clothes.  This helps them get involved in what we’re going to be doing.  Then just pick something out you think your husband looks handsome in and suggest he wear that.
  • To Couples – same thing, but you’re most likely not going to be getting dirty, so you can step it up in the wardrobe department if you want to.  We will come up with a vision for what we’re going to achieve with your session and then plan your wardrobe accordingly.

How long will my images take to arrive?

You will be able to view your images within 4 weeks of your session.  Printed products usually arrive within 2 weeks of placing your order.

Why so long?

Because I examine each photo individually and edit the best ones for you.  This is not a short or easy process and my editing style is a large part of what makes the images unique to both my photography and for your family.  When people say, “I love the feel of this photo,” or “I love your style of photography” – so much of it has to do with what happens on my end after we’ve finished our actual session.  This behind-the-scenes work is probably a big reason you hired The Good Life Photography!   As such, I never rush through a session when it comes to post-processing.

What’s the deal with the digital files?

I wrote a little thing about how I feel about prints and digitals here, but here’s the skinny:  I want you to have printed photos.  I want you to have digital back-ups of those photos.  I want you to send Grandma an 8×10 of the fam and a few 5x7s of the kids.  You can do all that with the files you are going to receive.

What if I want to print something to hang on my walls?

I really want you to have wall art that you can see every day – wall art that looks the absolute best it can for you to display.  Large prints can require extra attention before going to the printer to insure the best quality and accuracy.  I want to make sure that you are getting the highest quality product and that it looks exactly how I intended it to look while editing, so I highly encourage larger wall art to be printed through my pro lab that matches my monitor color calibration.

Do you travel?

Yes, please contact me for travel details.

When and how do I pay you?

A $150 deposit is required to retain your session date and can be maid in person, by mail, or online payment upon completion of your signed contract.  The remainder of your payment is due on the day of the session and can be made in the form of cash, check, credit card, or PayPal.
